The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation Scholarship for the year 2024-2025 is a fully funded scholarship opportunity. The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Scholarships are granted to up to 40 outstanding students and include a comprehensive seminar program aimed at enhancing candidates’ social competencies and academic skills.   • A monthly stipend of EUR 750 in a Bachelor’s, Diploma, Magister, or state examination program.
  • A monthly stipend of EUR 850 in a Master’s course.
  • Funding for health insurance costs, and scholars with children receive a family allowance of EUR 276.
  • The scholarship is non-repayable.

Eligibility Criteria for Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarships

To be eligible for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Required Languages: English / German.
  • Eligible Countries: Open to gifted students from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
  • Candidates should demonstrate exceptional potential for an academic or professional career, with strong aptitudes and personalities.
  • Admission to study or enrollment at a state or state-recognized higher-education institution in Germany.
  • Sufficient knowledge of German, even though the courses are conducted in English. This means having a ‘Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang’ of at least DSH level 2, a ‘Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache’ of at least level 4, or a ‘Zertifikat C 1’ from a Goethe Institute.
  • Candidates are expected to show commitment to the values of social democracy.
  • Above-average academic performance in both school and studies.

How to Apply for Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarships

(1) To begin the application process, simply fill out the [online application form]. This initial stage involves answering a few questions about your professional and family background. No further documents are required at this point. If you are unsure or need to discuss your application before applying, you can contact one of the approximately 480 trusted lecturers. (Note: Please take note of the deadlines and dates!)

(2) If you are deemed eligible for a scholarship, you will be asked to submit additional documents, which will be communicated to you via email. This may include two expert reports from university professors, along with information regarding your prior education and socio-political involvement. First-year students (excluding Master’s students) in their initial university semester are required to provide two reports from former teachers.

You will have three weeks to upload the documents upon our request, and six weeks for the reports, if necessary, following consultation with us. We recommend that you prepare the documents while waiting for our response.

(3) If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to two interviews: one with a trusted lecturer from your department and another with a member of our selection committee. The list of all liaison lecturers and selection committee members of the FES study funding can be found in the FES annual report, which is updated at the beginning of each year and published on the FES homepage.

(4) The selection committee will make the final decision regarding acceptance into one of our programs. The committee convenes several times a year.
