Every academic year, KU Leuven, the largest university in Belgium, selects outstanding students from developing countries through the Global Minds Programme as scholarship candidates to pursue their Ph.D. The initiative is part of the university’s commitment to development cooperation and is overseen by IRO, the Interfaculty Council for Development Cooperation.

Eligibility:
- The applicant must be a citizen of one of the countries listed in the scholarship country list.
- Candidates with EU citizenship or long-term EU residence permits will not be considered.
- The candidate’s latest Master’s degree must have been awarded within the last ten years (not before 2014).
- A minimum academic grade equivalent to High Distinction or higher is required.
- Research proposals must exhibit excellent academic quality, with a specific focus on the development relevance of the proposal.
Application Instructions:
The application process involves two steps:
- Obtain admission to a doctoral or predoctoral program. Begin this procedure at least 2.5 months before the scholarship application deadline to ensure timely evaluation.
- Once admission is secured, apply for a Global Minds Ph.D. scholarship by the deadline of 22 February 2023 at 5:00 PM GMT.
